Books about the Russian Bride Experience

I have not bought or read any of these books. I have only read the advertising on their websites.

Several years ago when I first put this list together, there were several more books than there are now. Now it's a pretty short list, and I suspect that only the first book is likely to provide interesting useful reading that you wouldn't find elsewhere.

Your Russian Bride - The Shocking Truth
by Marina Smiley

(electronic format, $24.95)

Written by a Russian woman who married an American man, it contains her answers to the following questions:

  • Who are these young beautiful teenage girls, the ones you see on the opening webpages of these marriage agencies?
  • What you really need to know if you decided to marry a Russian woman.
  • What to expect from 35-45 year old Russian women.
  • What to expect from 25-35 year old Russian women.
  • What to expect from young 18-25 year old Russian girl.
  • Four things that are matter of fact, for you, but absolutely unknown to your future Russian wife.
  • Is it true that they are very family-oriented women?
  • What you need to tell your bride if you live on a tight budget.
  • What you must tell your bride if you feel insecure and are afraid to trust her completely.
  • Tips for men who are financially stable and are afraid to trust their future wife.
  • Three major reasons why foreign-Russian marriage fail.

Marina told me about this publication in May, 2003, when it was the newest book on the subject of Russian brides.

The Russian Bride Travel Guide
by Anthony Bochene

($24.95)

Considering that this book is sold on a website selling Russian women's contact information, maybe it doesn't qualify as being an unbiased source of information, but for what it's worth, there it is. It says there are over eighty websites selling Russian women's contact information. That's old information. In fact, hundreds of these websites have come and gone, but only a handful are any good. As far as I can tell from the advertising, this seems to be an actual printed book.

The Anti-Scam Manual
by Elena Petrova

(electronic format, $24.95)

Several years ago, a website of Elena Petrova did more to spread useful detailed warnings about scams than any other. She used to update this book frequently. Maybe she still does.

Elena Petrova is a Russian lady who met and married her South African husband through a personal ad. Elena's husband has put his story on the web where it's free to read. The only part of his story that I want to contradict is that he seems a little naive about the dangers of visiting Russia.

Some others that used to be for sale:

Russian Women Rollercoaster - by Clinton and Anya Carey (electronic format, $17.95)
Russian Women & Marriage: Love Letters... From Russia - by Weston Rogers (electronic format, 542 pages, 260 pictures, $27)
Russian Women F. A. Q. - by Steve Markos (electronic format, 250 pages, 100 photos, $29.95, add $3.50 for CD)
To Russia for Love - by Frank R. Coleman (printed book, 200 pages, $24.95)
Your Bride is in the Mail (about a Chinese bride) - by Gary Clark (coil-bound book, 176 pages, $34.95 plus shipping)

Since the websites selling these books have disappeared, I guess they weren't very popular.
